What is an EC-pH Sensor, How is it Used?

The EC-pH sensors we offer as Esular are high-technology devices designed to provide a more precise growing experience in soil and soil-less growing environments, greenhouses, landscape areas, and many other fields. Thanks to their remote communication features, EC-pH sensors allow you to monitor the electrical conductivity (EC) and pH values of your irrigation water and fertilizer solution instantly. Thus, you can perfectly control the balance of nutrients and water. In this article, we will talk about the importance of EC and pH values, and the installation and use of our device.

Why are EC and pH Values Important?

  • Importance of pH Value:
  • Accessibility of Nutrients : Plants take up nutrient elements more effectively in certain pH ranges. For example, the ideal pH range for most plants is 6.0-7.0. At this level, iron, manganese, and other important nutrients can be better utilized by plants.
  • Salt Stress Management: High or low pH levels can cause toxic elements to accumulate in the soil. For example, in acidic soils, the dissolution of aluminum increases, which causes damage to plants.
  • Microbial Activity: Soil pH directly affects the activity of microorganisms living in the soil. For example, while bacteria are most active between 6.0 and 8.0, the ideal pH range for actinomycetes is between 7.0 and 7.5. Fungi show maximum activity in more acidic conditions (between 4.0 and 5.0 pH).

Importance of EC Value

  • Salinity Levels : EC indicates the amount of dissolved salts in soil or water. High EC values can create salt stress in plants. Correct EC levels optimize water and nutrient uptake.
  • Concentration of Nutrients : The EC value indicates the concentration of nutrients in the irrigation water or fertilizer solution. With this information, by performing correct fertilization applications, it ensures that plants receive the nutrients they need on time and in sufficient quantities.
  • Affecting Water Uptake: The water uptake of plants depends on EC components. High salinity levels can cause difficulty in taking up nutrient water, which can lead to drying and growth retardation.

How to Use the EC-pH Sensor?

The installation and use of the sensors we offer as Esular are quite simple and user-friendly. The first step for the device connection to work properly is the appropriate placement of the central station with which the sensors will communicate. This central station communicates with other sensors via GSM or Wi-Fi and allows for easy addition of existing sensors. For the system to work correctly with EC (Electrical Conductivity) and pH sensors, the probes must first be calibrated. This process is necessary to provide precise measurements. After calibration, the necessary probes are connected to the system, ensuring that the sensor operates in the most suitable position. The system becomes fully operational after being connected to the 12V power input. Following installation, you can easily monitor the pH and EC values of the water or nutrient solution in the line via our mobile application. In this way, irrigation and nutrient management processes are optimized, and productivity and sustainability in agricultural processes are increased.

Automatic Fertilization Task
With the automatic tasks you will define through our application, you can perform precise fertilization processes based on pH and EC information.
