What is Pivot Irrigation?

Pivot irrigation, in its general sense, is an irrigation method carried out from a specific center and via a single line. Generally, this form of irrigation, which is applied by a moving irrigation vehicle traveling without using many pipes and equipment within the field, is quite effective. While there are various types of pivot irrigation systems, the two most commonly used systems are Linear Pivot Irrigation and Center Pivot Irrigation.

These systems, as the name suggests, are systems that move on a plane and are generally irrigated with guns from the upper part. Pivot systems can also be thought of as large vehicles moving within the field. The irrigation process is carried out thanks to the transport of sprinkler heads that irrigate a specific area by a mechanism.

You can see how these systems move within the field and how they work in the image below.

Center Pivot Irrigation System

Center Pivot Irrigation System is an irrigation system that performs the irrigation process automatically and effectively in large agricultural areas. This system consists of a long arm operating in a circular motion. Here are the basic features of the Circular Pivot Irrigation System:

  1. Irrigation Arm:

    • Generally, a long arm made of metal pipes performs a rotating movement from a fixed point.
    • Irrigation heads or sprayers on the arm carry out the distribution of water.
  2. Sprayers:

    • Sprayers placed on the arm are designed to distribute water regularly over a wide area.
    • The system ensures that water reaches the agricultural field evenly.
  3. Motor and Drive System:

    • Circular pivot irrigation systems are generally driven via electric motors, hydraulic systems, or gearboxes.
    • These motors rotate the arm, allowing the sprayers in the system to irrigate the agricultural land during the irrigation process.
  4. Control System:

    • The system can generally be programmed via a control panel or a computer.
    • Irrigation time, the amount of water, and other parameters can be adjusted through these control systems.
  5. Soil and Plant Sensors:

    • Some modern pivot irrigation systems can be integrated with smart sensors such as soil moisture sensors or sensors monitoring plant development.
    • These sensors can help optimize the irrigation system by determining the water need.
  6. Water Saving and Efficiency:

    • Circular pivot irrigation systems ensure more efficient use of water and minimize water loss in the agricultural field.
    • These systems provide water savings by providing higher efficiency compared to traditional irrigation methods.

Circular Pivot Irrigation System is an effective irrigation method generally used to irrigate grain, vegetable, or other agricultural products in large agricultural areas.

Linear Pivot Irrigation System

Linear Pivot Irrigation System is an automatic irrigation system that ensures the effective distribution of water through an irrigation arm moving in a straight line in agricultural fields. Here are the basic features of the Linear Pivot Irrigation System:

  1. Straight Moving Arms:

    • Linear Pivot Irrigation System generally consists of irrigation arms moving in a straight line.
    • These arms move from one side of the agricultural land to the other.
  2. Sprayers or Irrigation Heads:

    • Sprayers or irrigation heads placed on the arms ensure the regular distribution of water.
    • Sprayers generally mounted on the arms are designed to distribute water evenly to the agricultural field.
  3. Motor and Drive System:

    • The system is generally driven via a motor or hydraulic system.
    • These motors cover the agricultural land during the irrigation process by moving the irrigation arms.
  4. Control System:

    • Linear Pivot Irrigation System can be programmed via a control panel or a computer.
    • Irrigation time, the amount of water, and other parameters can be adjusted thanks to control systems.
  5. Water Saving and Efficiency:

    • This system ensures more efficient use of water and provides water savings thanks to the ability to provide water to specific regions of the agricultural land according to need.
    • High efficiency minimizes the water loss rate.
  6. Suitable Soil Conditions:

    • Linear Pivot Irrigation System is a system generally suitable for flat and long agricultural areas.
    • It is preferred in rectangular or square agricultural areas.

Linear Pivot Irrigation System is an irrigation method generally used in large agricultural areas and increases the productivity of agricultural products by ensuring the effective use of water.

Pivot Irrigation System Management

Pivot irrigation systems can generally be one in the application area, or a much larger number can be used. SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems are needed for these systems to be managed correctly and efficiently.

We, as Esular, facilitate this management with the solutions we have developed. With the advanced technology and user-friendly interfaces we provide, we guarantee the trouble-free operation of pivot irrigation systems. Thanks to the solutions offered by Esular, irrigation operations become more efficient, more reliable, and easier. In addition, we offer our users 24/7 monitoring and control opportunities with our specially developed mobile application. In this way, irrigation systems can be monitored from anywhere at any time and intervened when necessary. With these advanced technology solutions offered by Esular, you can manage your agricultural fields in the best way and maximize efficiency.
