What is Pivot Irrigation?

Pivot irrigation, in a general sense, is irrigation from a specific center with a line. It is a type of irrigation carried out by traveling through the field, generally with a mobile-type irrigation machine, without using many pipes and equipment. Although there are various types, two different systems, Linear Pivot Irrigation and Center Pivot Irrigation, are widely used. These irrigation systems, as the name suggests, are systems that move in one direction and are generally irrigated with guns from the upper part.

As you can see in the image below, we can say that pivot systems are used in large vehicles moving on land. Irrigation is carried out by moving sprint nozzles that irrigate a certain area with a certain mechanism.

Center Pivot Irrigation System

Center Pivot Irrigation System is an irrigation system that performs irrigation work automatically and effectively in large agricultural areas. This system consists of a long arm operating with a circular motion. The main features of the Circular Pivot Irrigation System are:

Irrigation Arm:

The long arm, usually made of metal pipes, performs a rotating motion from a fixed point.
On the arm, irrigation nozzles or sprinklers distribute the water.

Sprinklers:

Sprinklers mounted on the arm are designed to distribute water evenly over a wide area.
The system ensures that the water reaches the agricultural field evenly.

Motor and Drive System:

Circular rotation irrigation systems are generally controlled via electric motors, hydraulic systems, or gearboxes.
These motors rotate the arm, allowing the sprinklers in the system to irrigate the agricultural fields during the irrigation process.

Control System:

The system can usually be programmed via a control panel or computer.
Through these control systems, irrigation time, water amount, and other parameters can be adjusted.

Some modern pivot irrigation systems can be integrated with smart sensors such as soil moisture sensors or sensors monitoring plant growth.
These sensors can help optimize the irrigation system by determining the need for water.

Linear Pivot Irrigation System is an automatic irrigation system that allows effective distribution of water in agricultural fields through an irrigation arm moving in a straight line. The main features of the Linear Pivot Irrigation System are:

Straight Moving Arms:

Linear Pivot Irrigation System generally consists of irrigation arms moving in a straight line.
These arms pass from one edge of the agricultural field to the other.

Sprinklers or sprinkler nozzles:

Sprinklers or irrigation nozzles placed on the arms ensure the regular distribution of water.
Usually, the sprinklers mounted on the arms are designed for the even distribution of water across the agricultural field.

Motor and Drive System:

The system is usually controlled via a motor or hydraulic system.
These motors cover the agricultural field by moving the irrigation arms during the irrigation process.
