Canes above ground or in the root system; galls have a rough surface and a spongy texture. Galls may darken and develop cracks as they mature. It can cause a decrease in plant vigor and death.

Bacteria most commonly enter the plant through wounds caused by pruning or wind damage; the bacteria cause the proliferation of plant cells that form galls.
Control Method
Planting in areas known to be affected should be avoided for a period of at least three years. If an infected plant is found, it must be destroyed immediately.
