Fertilization Automation

Fertilization automation is an advanced application aimed at meeting water and nutrient needs in the most effective way in modern agriculture. This system, based on the direct delivery of water and fertilizer to the plant in agricultural lands, provides a great advantage to farmers. With fertilization automation, unnecessary losses are prevented by providing the plant with only as much water and nutrient elements as its nutritional needs. If we look at how this system works;

This method is performed using a special fertilization system integrated into the irrigation line. Fertilizer, along with irrigation water, is transferred through a combining system connected to the irrigation line from a fertilizer solution located in a separate tank. The fertilization system ensures that the nutrient substances in the water are distributed in the desired amount and homogeneously. During this process, the water and fertilizer solution are collected in a controlled manner by the irrigation system and delivered directly to the starting root point through drippers. In this way, while fertilizer waste is minimized, healthy development is supported, yield increases, and the fertilization process becomes more economical.

Performing Irrigation and Fertilization Together

With the simultaneous performance of irrigation and fertilization, both the nutrient and water needs of the plant are met. Therefore, the plant can easily access nutrients throughout the growth period. On the other hand, the accumulation of harmful substances in the soil is prevented. Water and fertilizer use efficiency is important from both economic and environmental aspects. Excessive irrigation and fertilizer applications cause pollution of groundwater along with deep percolation. For this reason, fertilization automation is considered an environmentally friendly agricultural practice.

This method can be used in almost all irrigation methods, but when fertigation is mentioned, the drip irrigation method is the first to come to mind. The reason for this is the difficulties encountered in other irrigation methods. In the surface irrigation method, when land leveling cannot be fully achieved, successful fertilization cannot be realized. In sprinkler irrigation, in cases where the fertilizer concentration is high, it can cause some diseases and damage to the plant leaves. Considering these conditions, the drip irrigation method is the first to come to mind when fertigation is mentioned.

What are the Advantages of Fertilization Automation?

  • Since fertilizers are given to the root zone of the plant along with water, extra fertilizer is not given to places where root development does not occur.
  • Due to the application of less fertilizer and water with fertigation, both production costs and groundwater pollution are reduced.
  • It provides energy and labor gains.
  • The yield and quality of the product increase.
  • The exposure of applicators to the applied chemicals decreases.
  • It provides the opportunity to fertilize when necessary without bringing machinery into the field.
  • It increases fertilizer efficiency by increasing the availability of salty nutrient elements.
  • It reduces the negative impact of wastewater.
  • Fertilizer losses due to leaching are minimized.
  • Since the upper parts of the plants are not wetted, the fight against diseases becomes easier.
  • If desired, appropriate agricultural pesticides and other chemical substances can also be applied at the same time.
  • It is suitable for automation.
