Plant Water Requirement Calculation Tool

Before mentioning the plant water requirement calculation tool, the concept of plant water requirement, which is called Evapotranspiration in many national and international sources and abbreviated as ET, is accepted with the definition of Plant Water Consumption. Generally, plant water consumption is expressed in "mm" for a specific time period.Certain formulas are used in the calculation of plant water requirement. The most commonly used of these formulas today is the FAO-Penman Monteith approach.

ETc = water requirement in mm per unit time of a specific crop, e.g. mm / day, mm / month or mm / season.

kc = “crop factor”

ETo = “reference crop evapotranspiration” in mm per unit time, e.g. mm / day, mm / month or mm / season

We have envisioned a system for our farmers using these data. In this system, the water requirements of plants can be easily calculated. The distribution of water requirements of certain plants for each province is shown in periods according to months. 3 periods have been prepared for each month. Our system is shown in detail in our image below.

In our system you see above, first you must make a selection from the REGION SELECTION box.

Then you should select the plant you want to see in the region you selected.

After also specifying your land size, you should click the 'SHOW' button.

In this way, a graph of the plant's water requirement in periods for each month will appear before you. At the same time, it is possible for you to see the distribution of the plant's water requirement by weeks.

2. Plant Net Irrigation Water Requirements

According to meteorological station data, plant net
irrigation water requirements are tracked. These data are calculated by taking into account factors such as the amount of water plants need, weather conditions, soil moisture, soil type, and plant species.

Meteorological station data are important for determining the amount of water plants need. These data include factors such as daily or weekly precipitation amount, humidity rate, air temperature, and wind speed. These data are used to determine the amount of water plants need.

The net irrigation water requirement needed by plants may vary according to agricultural irrigation methods. For example, while using a surface irrigation system, the amount of water plants need may be higher because water suffers loss on the soil surface. While using a subsurface irrigation system, the amount of water plants need may be lower because it prevents water loss on the soil surface.

As a result, the net irrigation water requirement needed by plants, calculated by taking meteorological station data into account, may vary according to agricultural irrigation methods and is important for the healthy development of plants. Using these data, correct irrigation methods can be applied for the purpose of increasing productivity and protecting water resources.
