What is an Irrigation Hydrant?
What is an irrigation hydrant? In collective pressurized irrigation systems, the devices placed on the pressurized pipe network that allow all users to receive water under equal or similar conditions at points that may have different pressures and flow rates for individual sprinkler or drip irrigation systems in agricultural enterprises are called irrigation hydrants. Irrigation hydrants ensure the prevention of water waste.
A hydrant consists of a body and outlets placed on the body. In pressurized pipes, the inlet pressure to the hydrant should be taken as 30-40 m.
A hydrant can have 1, 2, 3, or 4 outlets. In this case, one outlet is allocated to each agricultural enterprise, and the farmer performs irrigation using the outlet allocated to them.
In general, an irrigation hydrant provides the following functions:
- It can establish or cut off the water source without water hammer.
- Provides the connection of irrigation equipment
- Regulates the flow pressure.
- Provides opening and closing.
- Measures the volume of flowing water.
