What is the Fertilizer Tracking System (FTS)?

The Fertilizer Tracking System (FTS) is a system that ensures the traceability of agricultural fertilizers in the process from production until they reach the consumer. This system has been developed to prevent the imitation, adulteration, or counterfeiting of fertilizers and to ensure that fertilizers are used safely and effectively. FTS creates a unique identity or coding system for each product starting from the production stage. These identities or codes are labeled during the packaging stage of the fertilizers and are tracked and recorded during the distribution stage. Information regarding the use of fertilizers reaching the end user is also recorded and tracked in the system. In this way, it becomes possible to track where the fertilizers come from and where they go throughout the supply chain. FTS is considered an important tool for increasing the safety and quality of fertilizers in the agricultural sector. Thanks to this system, the productivity of agricultural products increases, environmental impacts decrease, and consumer confidence is ensured.

How Does the Fertilizer Tracking System Work?

The operation of the FTS is as follows: First, a unique identity or coding system is determined for each fertilizer product. These identities are applied to the product during the packaging stage and printed on the packaging in the form of a QR code or barcode. During the distribution process, the traceability of each product is ensured and recorded, and where the fertilizers come from and where they go throughout the supply chain is determined. The system also records the production and distribution processes of the fertilizers, so it can be determined through which stages they passed and by whom they were processed. Information regarding the use of fertilizers reaching the end user is also recorded and tracked in the system. In this way, by ensuring the correct and effective use of fertilizers, the productivity of agricultural products increases and environmental impacts decrease. FTS ensures the confidence of farmers and consumers by increasing reliability and quality in the fertilizer supply chain. While an increase in agricultural production is achieved through the use of reliable and high-quality fertilizers, environmental impacts are also minimized. In this way, sustainable growth and productivity increase in the agricultural sector are supported.

What are the Benefits of the Fertilizer Tracking System?

The Fertilizer Tracking System (FTS) provides a range of important benefits:

  • Prevention of Imitation and Adulteration: FTS prevents the imitation and adulteration of fertilizers. By using a unique identity or coding system for each fertilizer product, it prevents counterfeit products from being put on the market.

  • Reliability and Quality: Thanks to the traceability of fertilizers, reliable and high-quality products are offered to consumers. This increases the productivity and quality of agricultural products.

  • Reduction of Environmental Impacts: Correct and effective fertilizer use helps reduce environmental impacts. FTS tracks the use of fertilizers to prevent excessive use and reduces the risk of environmental damage.

  • Increasing Agricultural Productivity: The traceability and correct use of fertilizers increase agricultural productivity. This allows farmers to obtain more and higher-quality products.

  • Fertilizer Purchase Planning: FTS helps in better planning regarding fertilizer purchase and use. This provides cost savings for farmers and ensures more effective use of resources.

  • Trust and Transparency: Thanks to FTS, consumers know where the fertilizers come from and how they are processed through a reliable and transparent supply chain. This increases consumer confidence.

Overall, the Fertilizer Tracking System is an important tool for ensuring more reliable, efficient, and sustainable production in the agricultural sector.

What is DNABarkod™?

DNABarkod™ is a biotechnological label consisting of invisible organic nano-particles that assigns a unique identity and traceability feature to the products it is applied to by encoding data. This technology is used to increase the reliability and traceability of products. Applied uniquely to each product, DNABarkod™ is matched with the QR code or barcode on the product's packaging or label, giving each product a unique identity. In this way, the production process, supply chain, and journey of the products to the end user become traceable. DNABarkod™ technology helps prevent the imitation, adulteration, or counterfeiting of products while also providing manufacturers, distributors, and consumers with access to reliable information about the products. This increases consumer confidence while ensuring transparency and reliability in the supply chain.

Is FTS Use Mandatory?

The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, General Directorate of Plant Production, has stated in the approval dated 18.06.2020 and numbered E.1668718 that enterprises for which the use of the Fertilizer Tracking System (FTS) is mandatory must use e-waybill and e-invoice applications through the FTS as of 01.07.2020, in accordance with Article IV.3.6 of the General Communiqué on Tax Procedure Law No. 509 of the Ministry of Treasury and Finance. With this regulation, fertilizer enterprises must issue electronic waybills and invoices through the FTS, which is an important step for increasing traceability and ensuring reliability in the process from the production to the distribution of fertilizers.
