Why Should I Prefer Smart Irrigation Systems in Sunflower Cultivation
Sunflower is one of the most important oil crops in the world and in our country. In our country, it is generally grown for oil. Sunflower production, which has been around 23 million tons in the world in recent years, is carried out. Turkey is among the top ten countries in sunflower production.
Resolve the Optimum Water Needed by the Plant in Sunflower Cultivation with Smart Irrigation Systems
The total annual amount of water needed by sunflowers is 700-800 mm. Since it cannot meet all of its annual water needs from precipitation, the correct irrigation period is very important. To meet plant water consumption, there is a need for 600-700 mm of irrigation water in Turkey.
The water needs of the sunflower plant differ in different growth periods. In the period from emergence to the beginning of head formation, it uses approximately 20% of the total annual water consumption. The period when the sunflower plant needs water the most is the 40-day period before and after flowering. During this period, it uses 60% of the total annual water consumption.
The Most Water-Sensitive Stage
It is the interval between the stage when the heads begin to form before flowering and the milk-ripe stage. The stress created by the plant's need for water during this stage leads to irreversible losses in yield.
Especially the water need of the sunflower plant reaches its peak during the flowering period. In this stage, the irrigation need should be met and the irrigation process should be completed without putting the plant under stress. There should be no delay. In addition, sunflower does not like excessively humid regions. If the relative humidity of the air is high, the negative effect of diseases causing head rot increases. Irrigating when the plant needs it most and using smart irrigation systems to prevent excess moisture that would cause diseases makes a great contribution to increasing oil quality as well as high yield in the plant.
Thanks to Our Smart Irrigation Systems;
Because we provide water frequently in small amounts and thanks to the smart sensors we use, we easily adjust the water, air, and fertilizer balance in the soil. By keeping the water status in the soil at field capacity, we protect our sunflower plant, which is highly affected by stresses such as excess water, insufficient water, excessive fertilizer, etc. This process increases both yield and oil quality.
