These sheep, whose homeland is the Thrace and Aegean regions, are frequently raised especially in the fertile pastures of Marmara and the Aegean. Known for their white bodies and curly wool, Kıvırcık sheep are known for their durable and robust structures. Generally fed by grazing, these sheep easily adapt to challenging environmental conditions. Attracting attention with their high fertility and productivity, Kıvırcık sheep can give birth to an average of 1 or 3 lambs at each birth. Therefore, this breed, which is an important part of Turkish agriculture, provides significant income sources to farmers by being used in both meat and milk production. Kıvırcık Sheep Meat Yield

This breed, one of Turkey's unique sheep breeds, also has significant potential in terms of meat yield. These sheep are known for their delicious and soft meat. In their youth, their meat is lighter in color and characterized by thin muscle fibers. The fat accumulated between these thin muscle fibers makes the meat more delicious. Kıvırcık sheep can reach a significant carcass weight even when they reach weaning. Therefore, a carcass of 17-18 kilograms can be obtained after only a two-month feeding process. In addition, the fact that their meat is compatible with the unique tastes of Turkish cuisine and contributes to local flavors also makes Kıvırcık sheep meat special. For this reason, Kıvırcık sheep play an important role in meat production in Turkey and constitute a valuable resource for the agricultural sector.

Kıvırcık Sheep Milk Yield

This breed exhibits a moderate performance in terms of milk yield. Generally, milk yield in ewes varies between 60 to 90 liters. However, this amount may vary depending on care conditions, the nutrition program, and the general health status of the animal. Therefore, although Kıvırcık sheep do not show as high a performance as some other breeds in terms of milk yield, the amount of milk they provide is generally at a level acceptable to breeders.
