Turkey Could Not Enter the Top 25 Countries in the Global Food Sustainability Index: Water Management Received 0 Points Out of 100

The Global Food Sustainability Index, created with data compiled by The Economist, showed that Turkey has fallen behind in sustainable agriculture. Turkey ranked 60th among 78 countries in this field.

While sustainability in food is of great importance for countries and the world, the "Global Food Sustainability Index" prepared by The Economist included important data that serves as a critical warning for Turkey. In the index created with 2021 data, while Sweden, Japan, and Canada took the top three spots, Turkey could not even enter the top 25 among the world's countries.

Covering a total of 78 countries and prepared under the headings of food loss and waste, agriculture, and nutritional challenges, the index scored countries both in these headings and in terms of general food sustainability. In the scoring out of 100, Turkey’s average score was announced as 66. Turkey was listed in 27th place among 78 countries.

According to the shared data, Turkey received 69 points in food, 60 points in sustainable agriculture, and 69 points in nutritional challenges. With these scores, Turkey became the 78th and last country in food, 23rd in the fight against waste, and 60th in sustainable agriculture.

The biggest problem in sustainable agriculture, where Turkey ranked lowest, was water management. Turkey received 0 points out of 100 regarding water management.
