Field Spraying with Drone

Field spraying with drone, the use of new techniques or devices emerging with the rapid development of technology in agriculture allows agricultural applications to be carried out more easily and effectively. The use of drones, which is one of the most popular technological developments in recent years, is increasing in agriculture and it is seen that they are becoming more popular with the addition of new application areas.

Increasing efficiency and product quality in agricultural production is very important. For this reason, the development process of plants must be well monitored and necessary applications must be made on time. High-resolution photos are captured with sensors and cameras placed on drones, which have a simple technical structure and easy use, and by creating 3D maps, they offer farmers the opportunity to plan in agricultural activities. In this way, both up-to-date data regarding agricultural activities can be collected and efficiency in production can be ensured.

How is Spraying Done with a Drone?

Drones have two types of control systems. One is control with a remote control and the other can be controlled with a pre-installed autonomous flight system. In this way, while you are doing your other work, the drone can perform your spraying or irrigation tasks at the coordinates you specify. Before spraying and irrigation in the field, various diseases and pests can be detected with photos or video images taken during drone flights; if irrigation is being done, accumulated water or unirrigated areas can be identified.

Two important points should be mentioned in spraying with a drone. These are: the complete and error-free application of the pesticide. For this, first of all, diseases or weeds are detected with a preliminary flight. The plant protection product, which is effective on the detected pests or weeds, can be applied to the location marked via software thanks to the drone. Even thanks to the combination of drone technology and the cloud system, various algorithms notify when fertilization should be done and personally perform the fertilization process.

What are the Benefits of Spraying with a Drone?

The benefits of spraying with a drone to farmers can be listed as follows;

  • Provides yield increase: Thanks to the use of agricultural spraying drones, agricultural spraying products applied evenly and balancedly show maximum effect in the fight against target diseases or pests. The product, which reaches the entire field or garden, onto the plant, and all vegetative organs such as branches, leaves, stems, and buds in equal and balanced amounts, helps to reduce yield losses by showing more effective success in agricultural control.

  •  Reduces environmental pollution: Problems such as incorrect dosage and the inability to provide equal distribution on a field basis, which are frequently encountered especially in manual applications of pesticides and herbicides, pose a great risk to environmental and human health. In contrast, spraying applications made with professional drones allow much less pesticide to be applied by spraying continuously and in equal amounts over a much wider area. Unmanned aerial vehicle technology, which helps to reduce the agricultural chemicals used, prevent practitioners from being constantly exposed to pesticide contact, and ensure that farmers do not experience economic losses, is a very important assistant for farmers.

  • Lowers agricultural input costs: Important agricultural machinery and equipment that every farmer should have can cause very high costs. Depending on the crops grown and the geographical conditions of the cultivated agricultural land, many equipments that need to be owned, such as liquid mixing tanks, hoses, and reels, create initial investment and subsequent maintenance/repair costs. This is a significant cost for farmers. However, thanks to agricultural drone technologies, much more effective spraying applications are made at much more affordable costs by using an application-based service procurement system according to the size of the agricultural land. In short, labor and operating expense costs are reduced, and at the same time, maintenance-repair or part-finding situations are also eliminated.
