Amrock Speckled Chicken

Amrock, also known as the Speckled Chicken, is a chicken breed of American origin. It emerged as a result of breeding studies conducted in the 1940s-1950s to improve the Plymouth Rock breed. Amrock chickens have an ideal structure for both meat and egg production. Amrock chickens are durable, resistant to diseases, and have an easy-to-care-for structure. At the same time, these chickens, which have a calm and harmonious character, can adapt to various coop living conditions. If fed correctly under appropriate coop conditions, they can live for 7 to 12 years. Therefore, their breeding is quite common in countries with various climatic and geographical conditions like Turkey.

What are the Characteristics of Amrock Speckled Chicken?

These chickens are a breed of American origin and are an ideal type of chicken for both meat and egg production. One of the most prominent features of these chickens is that their meat is delicious and their average weight is between 3-3.5 kilograms. Additionally, the fact that the gender of Amrock chicken chicks can be determined more easily compared to other chicken breeds is an advantageous feature. They can easily adapt to different climatic conditions in Turkey. They have two different colors, being white and black. The average lifespan of these chickens varies between 7 and 12 years. However, care must be taken in the maintenance of the chickens for this long life to be sustained. Regarding egg yield, Amrock chickens are a very productive breed. These chickens, which usually start laying eggs at 7 months old, produce light brown colored eggs weighing approximately 65 grams. The annual egg yield is between 200 and 250 on average. Therefore, with their high productivity and durability, Amrock chickens are an excellent option for both large farms and those engaged in small-scale chicken breeding.

How Many Eggs Does Amrock Speckled Chicken Lay per Year?

These chickens can lay an average of 200 to 250 eggs per year. However, egg yield varies depending on many factors. Egg yield can be affected by the age of the chicken, nutritional status, living environmental conditions, and care. Therefore, it is possible for the egg yield to approach the upper limit with good care and nutrition.

How is the Amrock Chicken Egg? How to Increase the Egg Yield of Amrock Chickens?

The eggs of speckled chickens are generally light brown in color and medium-sized, and are quite nutritious. To increase egg yield, first of all, a balanced and high-quality nutrition program must be implemented. Chickens should be given feeds containing sufficient protein, vitamins, and minerals, and also plenty of clean water should be available. Temperature, humidity, and ventilation in the coop should be controlled. Cleanliness and hygiene prevent diseases and parasites in the coop, while conducting the incubation process regularly and correctly positively affects chick hatching and health. Additionally, selecting and using chickens that show high egg yield is also a factor that increases yield. By paying attention to all these factors, you can increase the egg yield of Amrock chickens and obtain quality production.

What Should Be Considered When Buying Chickens?

When buying chickens, first of all, the general health status of the chicken should be checked. The chicken must be active, lively, and have bright eyes. Its feathers should be shiny, clean, and smooth, and there should be no signs of redness, crusting, or parasites on its skin. Additionally, attention should be paid to whether the chicken is breathing without problems. For egg yield, young and productive-age chickens are preferred. Therefore, it is also important to make a choice according to the age and gender of the chicken. Also, chickens may experience stress when being transported or placed in a new environment. Therefore, attention should be paid to the environment from which the chickens are taken and their compatibility with other chickens. Finally, it should be checked whether there are appropriate health certificates or vaccination information documenting the health status of the chickens.

How to Distinguish Amrock Chicken from Plymouth Chicken? Amrock Chicken or Plymouth Chicken?

Plymouth chickens and Amrock chickens resemble each other with their feather patterns and general appearance. There are a few characteristics to distinguish these two species. First, the combs of Amrock chickens do not grow long and do not fold. They also have a shorter and stiffer structure. Another distinguishing feature is that the legs of Amrock chickens are generally yellow. Additionally, their breast areas are meatier and more prominent compared to Plymouth chickens. Thanks to these features, it is possible to distinguish these two breeds from each other.

These two breeds are almost identical in terms of appearance and behavioral characteristics. However, there are small differences between these two breeds in egg yield. If egg yield is an important criterion for you in chicken breeding, the egg yield of Amrock chickens is higher than that of Plymouth chickens. When raised with good care and under appropriate conditions, Amrock chickens lay 20 to 40 more eggs per year.
